Fire Protection

The Rural Municipalities of Hillsdale, Manitou Lake and the Village of Neilburg participate in an
inter-municipal agreement for fire protection with the Neilburg Fire Board.  The Municipalities pay an annual fee to the Neilburg Fire Board to share in the cost of the Neilburg and District Fire Department as per the agreement. See Bylaw 4, 1998 and Bylaw 5, 2013.  The fire department is administered through the Neilburg Fire Board.

The Rural Municipalities of Hillsdale, Eldon, Paynton, the Village of Waseca and Town of Maidstone participate in an inter-municipal agreement for fire protection with the Maidstone Waseca and District Fire Board. The costs are shared by the participating Municipalities as per the agreement. See Bylaw 1, 1995. The fire department is administered through the Maidstone Waseca and District Fire Board. 

The Rural Municipality of Hillsdale and the Cut Knife Rural Fire Protection Association participate in a fire protection agreement.  See Bylaw 2, 1978.

Fire Chief

The Rural Municipality of Hillsdale No. 440 shall appoint Fire Chiefs for the Neilburg and District Fire Department, Maidstone Waseca and District Fire Department and the Cut Knife Fire Department and each fire chief shall have jurisdiction over the entire area within our municipal boundaries.

Fire Investigation

The Municipality authorizes the Fire Chief to appoint the RCMP as local assistant investigators pursuant to section 12 of the Fire Prevention Act 1992.

Emergency Mutual Aid - E.M.O

The Rural Municipalities of Hillsdale, Eldon, Manitou Lake, Payton, Wilton, Britannia, the Villages of Waseca, Marsden, Neilburg, Payton, the Towns of Lashburn, Maidstone and Marshall participate in an inter-municipal agreement to form the Maidstone Mutual Aid Area.  The participating municipalities share in the expenditures on a per capita basis.

The E.M.O. is administered out of the Rural Municipality of Wilton office and by a board consisting of an appointed representative from each participating municipality. See Bylaw 4, 1989
